The Quarry Hole 3

The first long par 4 at the Quarry course is unique in many respects. The tee is set on a high ridge of mining spoils, providing a commanding view of the hole. The golfer has two distinct tee shot choices – play short of a grass depression just past normal tee shot length, or go for a big drive, which requires a draw to get into the narrow neck of fairway beside it. The left side fairway is elevated, giving a better view of the "punchbowl" green.

The essence of the second shot is to aim away from the green! The green cants hard right making playing directly at the pin difficult. A reverse slope run up ramp to the greens left edge means playing a bit short is also wise. A long diagonal bunker set deeply below the green on the left challenges the shot. Missing right puts the golfer in a grassy chipping area with a delicate shot, and may save a shot from going into the quarry area beyond.
