History of the Burnt Onion Name In the early years of Giants Ridge (1960s & 70s), the original chalet was transformed into a night spot called Burnt Onion that offered entertainment and dining. The name was a tribute to the Red Onion bar in Aspen, Colorado but the name was tweaked to pay homage to a fire that had occurred in the original building several years before.
