Winter Operations Update 12/18/20

Hi Giants Ridge Fans,

As we are approaching our Holiday season and seven-day-a-week operations, we wanted to give a detailed operational update about all things Giants Ridge!

COVID -19 Reminders:

Please purchase all products and sign your waivers online before you arrive!  We can’t stress enough how much this helps us speed-up the process when you arrive at the resort.
If you are having trouble booking online, feel free to call our Guest Services office during normal operational hours (218.865.8005) and one of our agents will help guide you through the process.  We are also working on a cheat sheet to help with this.

When you do arrive, please go to the appropriate entrance.
If you just need just lift tickets or lessons, please go to the South Ticketing entrance of the Main Chalet (where you normally pick up your lift tickets).
If you need rentals and lift tickets, you can go directly to the Rental Shop entrance on the hill side patio.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who has been tailgating and properly disposing of their trash, we have been pleasantly surprised at how little has been left on the ground! THANK YOU and keep it up!

As always, please remember to wear your mask, indoors, in lift lines, and anywhere social distancing isn’t possible.

Mountain Operations and Snowmaking:

We’ve had great snowmaking since Sunday the 13th. As Sean, our Director of Mountain Operations put it, we’ve made more snow this week than we have in the last month! With that said, we have more terrain opening on the 18th, and more runs will continue to open daily as snowmaking finishes up (and the cat crew follows behind pushing out and tilling). New runs opening on the 18th include: Melbourne, Whistler, Nagano, and Vald d’Isere. In the meantime, the team is working hard on building the Garmisch Park, snowmaking on Kitzbuhel, and Chamonix. We are targeting to open Garmisch by the 26th, but there is a chance we could have it open sooner, so stay tuned.  While all this is going on, the snowmaking team is continues to press to the north making snow on Snowbird, Sunshine, Deer Valley, and Rocky Top.  The tubing park is getting close, we plan to open that on the 26th as well!

Unfortunately we still haven’t received enough natural snow to officially open the Nordic trails just yet.  We did get an inch or so this week and have rolled it in, but it has been baking off the golf course every sunny day, so it still isn’t good enough advertise it yet. In the meantime we have been working to keep a portion of the base area open from 4-6 each night for Nordic Skiing. For more info on that, check out the Cross Country Skiing page on the website.

Food and Beverage:

The food court will remain open for TO-GO orders, and we will also be opening the Burnt Onion for take out as well. The Burnt Onion hours will be Monday – Thursday: 11 am – 6 pm; Friday & Saturday: 11 am – 8 pm; Sunday: 11 am – 6 pm.  Guests can call 218-865-8061 to place their order.  Guests can purchase beer or wine as part of their food order.

Thanks again for everyone’s continuous support through all of this, the entire team here has been working hard to make sure that we can provide a safe season!
It will take everyone to help ensure we can stay open all season long!

Get out and have some fun sliding around on snow!

Benji Neff – GR Director of Mountain Sports
