Operations Update 8.02.2024
Thanks goodness for some dry weather! After a rainy June crews have been making some great progress on the mountain in July!
Sarajevo:
Pipe, electrical cable, hydrants, pedestals and snowgun foundations have been installed top to bottom. Crews are working on tying up some loose ends on this run but that should be completed next week.
Placid:
Pipe, electrical cable, hydrants, pedestals, and snowgun foundations have been installed on this run top to bottom. Again there are a few loose ends to tie up but Placid is mostly complete.
XC Stadium:
Pipe, electrical cable, hydrants, and pedestals have been installed in the stadium area. In the coming weeks crews will be working on installing two specialized foundations in the stadium area to support swing arm tower configurations. Swing arms are being installed in the stadium to allow for the snowguns to be installed on the edge of the stadium and swing out into that area to help cover the large amount of terrain that encompasses the stadium area. Once snowmaking is complete in this area the swing arms are able to be stowed off the edge of the stadium to allow for space required to hold Nordic events. We are excited to have this upgrade in the stadium area as it will allow two snowgun towers to cover the entire area!
Sarajevo Pass/Calgary/Beginner Area:
Crews have all the pipe, electrical cable, hydrants, pedestals, and snowgun bases installed on these runs down to the base of the steeps. This week crews began excavating the Beginner Area to allow for installation of snowmaking components there. We hope to finish off this area completely in the next two weeks!
North Olympic Valley/Cortina/Sapporo/Tube Park:
All pipe, electrical cable, hydrants, pedestals and snowgun bases have been installed down to the tubing area. These areas will have a mixture of automated tower snowguns and infrastructure to support carriage snowguns based on terrain. This line finishes out in the Tube Park, as of today crews have made good progress installing infrastructure throughout the tube park. We anticipate this line to be wrapped up in the next week or so.
South Olympic Valley/Grenoble:
Crews have all pipe, electrical cable, hydrants, pedestals and snowgun bases installed down to the bottom of Grenoble. This crew is currently digging across the base of the hill to hopefully finish off this line by the end of the week. The north side of Olympic Valley and Grenoble will have 9 automated tower snowguns installed along the runs to support snowmaking operations.
Helsinki:
A crew has just began excavating to install hydrants, electrical cable, pedestals, and snowgun foundations that will cover the Helsinki area. 6 automated tower snowguns will be installed from the top of the Helsinki headwall down to the base area. On the steep of Helsinki we will utilize two swing arm tower configurations to allow for the snowguns to cover more ground on parts of the steep that are not accessible for carriage snowguns. These swing arms will also allow us to keep the snowguns on a tower but run lower to the ground to combat high winds that are usually present in that area.
Innsbruck:
This week a crew also started excavating and installing infrastructure from the Valve House at the top of the hill. They will continue to work down Innsbruck in the coming weeks to install all pipe, electrical cable, hydrants, pedestals, and snowgun foundations to support snowmaking operations in this area.
Earlier this week crew started excavating across the top of the hill from the Valve House towards Garmisch. As crews finish up the middle of the mountain in the next couple of weeks more resources will be sent to start working down the Garmisch trail. We are thrilled to add snowmaking to the Garmisch trail! In the past our snowmakers would have to run hoses and electrical cords from Kitzbuhl through the woods over to Garmisch in order to run carriage snowguns in that area. As part of the project Garmisch will receive it’s own infrastructure that will support 11 automated tower snowguns that will be located along the run top to bottom. This will be a major improvement for the facility that will allow for a much more efficient snowmaking process on the Garmisch trail that services our largest terrain park!
In the coming weeks crews will start installing snowgun towers on their concrete bases across the mountain. This is very exciting for us as visually we can see the system starting to take shape from an above ground standpoint. Once work in the middle and south side of the mountain is complete we will turn our attention back to the north and start working down Melbourne, Snowbird, and Sunshine. As the heat of summer fades into fall our excitement level is off the charts as we cannot wait to get this system up and running to provide a great product for our guests!
